About the artist
Accept is a German heavy metal band from Solingen, formed in the late 1970s around guitarist Wolf Hoffmann, bassist Peter Baltes and the distinctively gravelly-voiced Udo Dirkschneider. Emerging alongside acts like Scorpions, Accept became one of the defining forces of the German heavy metal scene, with their aggressive, precise riffing and anthemic choruses helping lay groundwork for both speed and thrash metal in the 1980s. The band's commercial and artistic peak came with 1983's «Balls to the Wall», whose title track remains a genre staple, alongside earlier favorites like «Metal Heart», «Fast as a Shark» and «Princess of the Dawn». Dirkschneider's unmistakably raspy delivery paired with Hoffmann's melodic, classically-influenced guitar work gave Accept a sound that was both brutal and hook-driven, distinguishing them from more straightforward NWOBHM-influenced peers.
After Dirkschneider departed for a solo career under the U.D.O. banner in 1987, the band underwent multiple lineup changes and hiatuses, with members pursuing side projects through the 1990s and 2000s. Accept eventually reformed with a new singer in the following decade, continuing to tour and record while remaining a touchstone act referenced by generations of metal musicians for their role in shaping the genre's harder, faster edge.
