About the artist
Aaron Gillespie is an American musician, songwriter and producer best known as the original drummer and clean vocalist of the metalcore band Underoath, whose blend of aggressive screamed vocals with his melodic singing helped define the genre's post-hardcore sound in the 2000s. He later became the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the alternative rock band The Almost, and also spent time as the touring drummer for Paramore between 2013 and 2016.
Beyond his band work, Gillespie maintains an active solo career, releasing his debut full-length album Anthem Song in 2011, alongside worship and roots-leaning material that reflects a more melodic, singer-songwriter side distinct from his heavier band output. His voice is a throughline across all these projects — warm, melodic and versatile enough to move between hardcore-adjacent rock, alternative pop-rock and acoustic-driven singer-songwriter material.
Gillespie's career illustrates an unusually broad range for a single artist: from the screamed-and-sung dynamic that shaped modern metalcore, to radio-friendly alternative rock, to stripped-down solo songwriting and session/touring drumming for a major pop-rock act. That versatility across drumming, singing, songwriting and production has made him a respected and in-demand figure well beyond any single genre or band.
