About the artist
5 Seconds of Summer are an Australian pop-rock band from Sydney, formed in 2011 by Luke Hemmings (lead vocals), Michael Clifford (guitar), Calum Hood (bass), and Ashton Irwin (drums). The band gained international attention through YouTube cover videos, which caught the eye of One Direction and led to a support slot on their tour, launching the band into mainstream popularity.
Their self-titled debut album (2014) and its breakout single «She Looks So Perfect» established them as pop-punk-leaning hitmakers with strong live energy. On their follow-up, Sounds Good Feels Good, the band pushed further into a pop-punk direction with tracks like «She’s Kinda Hot», before evolving their sound on Youngblood, embracing a slicker, more electronic and R&B-tinged pop production heard on the title track and «Want You Back».
Later releases, including CALM and 5SOS5, continued to explore synth-driven pop and rock textures, with songs such as «Teeth», «Lie to Me», and «Ghost of You» showing a more introspective, emotionally layered songwriting approach. Known for writing much of their own material, 5 Seconds of Summer made history as the first band to have their first three albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200.
