5 Seconds of Summer es una banda de pop-rock australiana de Sídney, formada en 2011 por Luke Hemmings (voz principal), Michael Clifford (guitarra), Calum Hood (bajo) y Ashton Irwin (batería). La banda ganó atención internacional gracias a sus videos de covers en YouTube, que llamaron la atención de One Direction y les llevaron a ser teloneros en su gira, lanzándolos a la popularidad masiva.
Su álbum debut homónimo (2014) y el sencillo revelación «She Looks So Perfect» los consolidaron como un acto de pop-punk con gran energía en directo. En su siguiente álbum, Sounds Good Feels Good, profundizaron aún más en el pop-punk con temas como «She’s Kinda Hot», antes de evolucionar su sonido en Youngblood, adoptando una producción pop más pulida, electrónica y con matices de R&B, presente en el tema título y en «Want You Back».
Lanzamientos posteriores, como CALM y 5SOS5, continuaron explorando texturas de pop electrónico y rock, con canciones como «Teeth», «Lie to Me» y «Ghost of You» mostrando un enfoque de composición más introspectivo y emocionalmente elaborado. Conocidos por escribir gran parte de su propio material, 5 Seconds of Summer hizo historia al ser la primera banda con sus primeros tres álbumes debutando en el número uno del Billboard 200.
