Sobre o artista
Tears for Fears é uma dupla inglesa de pop e rock formada em Bath em 1981 por Roland Orzabal e Curt Smith, amigos de infância que antes tocavam juntos na banda Graduate. O nome vem de um conceito da terapia primal, e o som inicial se apoiava em sintetizadores, caixas de ritmo e letras introspectivas, muitas vezes políticas — o avanço veio em 1982 com «Mad World» e o álbum de estreia The Hurting (1983).
O sucesso internacional chegou com Songs from the Big Chair (1985), que trouxe um pop-rock mais grandioso e produziu os hinos «Shout» e «Everybody Wants to Rule the World». O disco seguinte, The Seeds of Love (1989), aproximou-se de uma psicodelia inspirada nos Beatles, com produção luxuosa, e liderou as paradas britânicas antes de a dupla se separar em 1991, quando Orzabal seguiu usando o nome da banda enquanto Smith seguia carreira solo.
Orzabal e Smith se reuniram nos anos 2000, lançando Everybody Loves a Happy Ending (2004) e, mais tarde, The Tipping Point (2022). Ao longo de quatro décadas, Tears for Fears permanece uma referência do synth-pop e do art-rock dos anos 1980, admirada por unir canções emocionalmente cruas a uma produção de estúdio ampla, com um catálogo constantemente redescoberto e sampleado por novas gerações.
