Sufjan Stevens é um cantor, compositor e multi-instrumentista americano de Detroit, Michigan, conhecido por uma obra diversificada que abrange folk íntimo, arranjos orquestrais e experimentação eletrônica. Cofundou o selo independente Asthmatic Kitty com o padrasto, que lançou grande parte de sua produção desde o início dos anos 2000.
Ganhou maior destaque com seu álbum de 2005, «Illinois», um ambicioso ciclo de canções orquestradas que explora a história e o folclore daquele estado, o que lhe rendeu aclamação da crítica e um público devoto.
