Sufjan Stevens es un cantautor y multiinstrumentista estadounidense de Detroit, Michigan, conocido por una obra muy diversa que abarca el folk íntimo, los arreglos orquestales y la experimentación electrónica. Cofundó el sello independiente Asthmatic Kitty junto a su padrastro, que ha publicado gran parte de su producción desde principios de los 2000.
Alcanzó mayor notoriedad con su álbum de 2005 «Illinois», un ambicioso ciclo de canciones orquestadas que explora la historia y el folclore de ese estado, lo que le valió aclamación crítica y un público devoto. Su catálogo va desde el minimalismo del banjo en «Seven Swans» hasta el maximalismo electrónico de «The Age of Adz» y el duelo contenido de «Carrie & Lowell», considerado uno de sus discos más personales.
