"Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)" es la versión extendida y más oscura del sencillo original de Kid Cudi de su álbum debut de 2009, "Man on the Moon: The End of Day", creada junto a Andrew VanWyngarden de MGMT (coautor y voz del estribillo) y Mike Stroud de Ratatat (guitarra). Esta versión, subtitulada "Nightmare", conserva un tono más oscuro e inquietante y añade un outro extendido que describe una borrachera espiralando fuera de control, ausente en la edición de radio. Líricamente, la canción retrata la imprudencia juvenil de Cudi —beber, fumar, conducir ebrio— como mecanismo para lidiar con el insomnio, la ansiedad y los terrores nocturnos, presentado todo como una temeraria "búsqueda de la felicidad" que él mismo sabe hueca ("no todo lo que brilla siempre será oro").
