Mariah Carey es una cantautora y productora estadounidense nacida el 27 de marzo de 1969 en Huntington, Nueva York. Descubierta por el ejecutivo de Columbia Records Tommy Mottola, lanzó su álbum debut homónimo en 1990, que se mantuvo once semanas consecutivas en el número uno del Billboard 200 y la consolidó como una de las voces pop y R&B más importantes de su época, célebre por su rango de cinco octavas y el uso del registro silbido.
A lo largo de los años noventa y dos mil, Carey produjo una serie de sencillos número uno, entre ellos «Hero», «Fantasy», «My All» y, tras su álbum de regreso de 2005 The Emancipation of Mimi, «We Belong Together».
