Katy Perry, nacida Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson en 1984 en Santa Bárbara, California, es una de las estrellas pop definitorias de la década de 2010. Criada en un hogar religioso estricto, comenzó su carrera en la música gospel antes de reinventarse como artista pop mainstream, adoptando el apellido de soltera de su madre para evitar confusiones con la actriz Kate Hudson.
Su gran salto llegó con el álbum One of the Boys (2008) y su provocador éxito «I Kissed a Girl». El siguiente disco, Teenage Dream (2010), se convirtió en un álbum histórico al igualar la hazaña de Michael Jackson de generar cinco sencillos número uno de un mismo trabajo, consolidando a Perry como una fuerza dominante en la radio pop gracias a himnos como «Firework», «California Gurls» y «The One That Got Away».
