Sobre el artista
ABBA es un grupo de pop sueco formado en Estocolmo en 1972, integrado por Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson y Anni-Frid Lyngstad; el nombre de la banda proviene de las iniciales de sus nombres. Dos matrimonios dentro del grupo (Agnetha y Björn, Benny y Frida) marcaron tanto su característica mezcla vocal como, más adelante, el trasfondo emocional de sus canciones cuando esas relaciones terminaron.
Su gran salto llegó con la victoria en el Festival de Eurovisión de 1974 con «Waterloo», que los catapultó al estrellato internacional. En la década siguiente se convirtieron en uno de los actos más vendedores de la historia del pop, reconocidos por producciones exuberantes y minuciosamente arregladas que combinaban pop orquestal, disco, rock y toques folk con un oído infalible para los ganchos melódicos. Canciones como «Dancing Queen», «Mamma Mia», «Chiquitita» y «The Winner Takes It All» unían letras agridulces con arreglos brillantes y radiofónicos.
A pesar de los divorcios dentro del grupo, ABBA siguió grabando hasta comienzos de los años 80, antes de tomar una pausa. Su catálogo alimentó después el musical y la película Mamma Mia!, además de un renovado interés global por su música. Su influencia en la producción pop moderna sigue siendo ampliamente reconocida.
