ZAZ

Zaz, born Isabelle Geffroy, is a French singer-songwriter known for blending chanson, pop, jazz and folk influences into a warm, soulful sound. She trained in music and jazz vocals before moving to Paris, where she became involved with the Zenith de Saint-Denis and Parisian street-music scenes that shaped her raw, acoustic style. Her breakthrough came in 2010 with the single «Je veux», written by Kerredine Soltani, whose infectious, guitar-driven energy and defiantly anti-materialistic lyrics turned her into an overnight sensation across France and much of Europe.

Her debut album, released the same year, sold millions of copies and established her as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary French pop, often compared to Edith Piaf for her expressive delivery yet clearly modern in her arrangements. Songs like «On ira» and her rendition of «La vie en rose» showcased her ability to move between original material and beloved standards while keeping her signature husky, emotive tone.

Over the following years Zaz continued exploring world-music textures, incorporating Spanish and Latin flavors on tracks such as «Qué Vendrá», and released further albums that leaned into acoustic, unplugged arrangements. Songs including «Éblouie par la nuit», «Les passants» and «Si jamais j'oublie» cemented her reputation as an artist devoted to authenticity, live instrumentation and socially conscious themes, making her one of the defining French vocalists of her generation.
