Yeni Türkü

Yeni Türkü is a long-running Turkish band formed in Ankara in the late 1970s, emerging from a circle of university students and young musicians drawn to reinterpreting Anatolian folk music through a modern, band-based arrangement. The name reflects the group's founding idea: taking traditional türküs (folk songs) and giving them fresh, contemporary musical treatment rather than performing them in a strictly traditional style.

The band's early years coincided with a politically turbulent period in Turkey, and their music carried strong social and left-leaning undertones typical of the era's folk-revival movements. Over time Yeni Türkü broadened its sound, incorporating elements of pop and rock arrangement while keeping Anatolian melodic roots at its core, building a catalog that spans gentle acoustic ballads and fuller band arrangements.
