About the artist
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) was an Austrian composer widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in Western classical music. Born in Salzburg to musician Leopold Mozart, he displayed extraordinary talent from early childhood, composing and performing across European courts as a prodigy on keyboard and violin. His mature style, refined during years as a court musician in Salzburg and later as a freelance composer in Vienna, is defined by melodic clarity, formal balance, and emotional depth within the elegance of the Classical idiom.
Mozart's output spans nearly every genre of his time: symphonies, piano and violin concertos, chamber music, choral works, and above all opera, where works like «Die Zauberflöte» (The Magic Flute) showcase his gift for combining drama, humor, and vocal virtuosity. Arias such as «Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen» remain touchstones of the operatic repertoire for their technical demands and dramatic intensity.
His final years in Vienna produced some of his most enduring works, including the unfinished Requiem in D minor, containing the famous «Lacrimosa» and «Confutatis» movements, completed after his death by other hands. Mozart's premature passing at 35 has fueled centuries of myth-making, but his musical legacy endured undiminished, shaping the course of Romantic and later classical composition and remaining a cornerstone of the concert and operatic repertoire today.
