Wilbur Soot

Wilbur Soot is the stage name of William Gold, an English musician and internet personality who first rose to prominence as a member and editor of the group YouTube channel SootHouse, before building a huge solo following on his own channel featuring music, vlogs, and gaming content. He later became widely known through the Minecraft roleplay server Dream SMP, where his in-character work fed directly into his songwriting.

Musically, Wilbur Soot works in a loose, confessional singer-songwriter style that draws on pop, indie rock, folk, and occasional country and rap influences, often pairing plainspoken, self-deprecating lyrics with catchy, lo-fi-leaning production. His early work, including the collection Maybe I Was Boring and the debut EP Your City Gave Me Asthma, dealt with sickness, loneliness, and mental health, themes that carried into later singles like «Your New Boyfriend» and «I’m in Love with an E-Girl».
