Wham!

Wham! were an English pop duo formed in London in 1981 by childhood friends George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. In a remarkably short career spanning just a few years, they became one of the defining pop acts of the 1980s, blending buoyant, danceable hooks with a sunny, youthful image that captured the era's mood.

Their breakthrough came with singles like «Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do?)» and «Young Guns (Go for It!)», establishing them as chart regulars in the UK before their 1984 album Make It Big turned them into global stars. Songs such as «Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go», «Freedom» and «Everything She Wants» showcased George Michael's growing songwriting talent, while «Last Christmas» became one of the most enduring holiday songs in pop history.

Michael's songwriting and vocal ability, paired with Ridgeley's stage presence and image, gave Wham! a chemistry that briefly made them one of the biggest acts in the world. The duo disbanded in 1986 as Michael moved on to a hugely successful solo career, but their catalogue, particularly its Christmas and summer anthems, has remained a fixture of pop culture ever since.
