Weyes Blood

Weyes Blood is the recording name of Natalie Mering, an American singer-songwriter born in 1988 and raised partly in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, in a musical family. She began in DIY and noise-folk circles, playing bass for the Portland collective Jackie-O Motherfucker before releasing early records as Weyes Blood in the early 2010s on the experimental label Not Not Fun.

Over the following decade her sound moved from hazy, tape-warped folk toward a lush, cinematic chamber pop indebted to Karen Carpenter, Harry Nilsson and Laurel Canyon-era songwriting, paired with lyrics about faith, ecological anxiety and modern loneliness. Albums such as Front Row Seat to Earth and, later, Titanic Rising and And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow built her reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary art-pop, praised for orchestral arrangements and a rich, unmistakable contralto.

She has collaborated with Ariel Pink (the Myths 002 EP) and contributed to work by Mild High Club, situating her within a loose West Coast psych-pop scene while remaining a singular, genre-blending artist in her own right.
