Воровайки (Vorovaiki)

Vorovaiki are a Russian all-female group performing in the blatnyak/chanson tradition, a genre rooted in Russian criminal-world folklore and prison ballads reworked into pop arrangements — a style the group itself has nicknamed «blat-pop». Formed at the end of 1999, the project was the brainchild of producers Spartak (Stepan) Arutyunyan and Valery Lizner, who together shaped its early musical identity, with Arutyunyan writing much of the material alongside Lizner before departing the project in 2004.

After Arutyunyan's exit, songwriting duties largely passed to producer Yury Almazov, who took the group through its most prolific and commercially recognized period, with tracks like «Шмон», «Хоп, мусорок» and «Мурки — Воровайки» becoming staples of the genre. The band's sound blends simple, catchy pop melodies with lyrics steeped in prison slang and street storytelling, a combination that has made it one of the more recognizable acts within Russian chanson despite the genre's niche status outside Russian-speaking audiences.

Ownership of the project later passed to Yury Alekseev, and following his death control shifted to his son, Nikita Nadyktov. In June 2024 the lineup was completely renewed, continuing the group's long history of rotating members while preserving its core blat-pop sound and repertoire.
