Vanessa Paradis

Vanessa Paradis is a French singer-songwriter, actress and model born on December 22, 1972. She became a child star at age 14 with the international hit «Joe le taxi», a playful, retro-tinged pop song that topped charts across Europe and made her one of France's most recognizable young performers of the late 1980s.

Over subsequent decades she developed into a more mature and stylish pop artist, working with prominent French songwriters and collaborators and moving between whimsical chanson-pop and more sophisticated, jazz- and electronic-tinged material, as heard in later songs like «La Seine» and «Mi amor». Her music has always carried a distinctly French sensibility, blending playful melodies with elegant, literate lyrics.

Paradis has also had a long-running career as an actress and, since 1991, as the face of Chanel, giving her a cultural presence well beyond music. Her widely publicized relationship with American actor Johnny Depp, with whom she has two children, further raised her international profile, while her sister Alysson Paradis is also a working actress.
