About the artist
Vancouver Sleep Clinic is the project of Australian singer-songwriter Tim Bettinson, who grew up in Brisbane immersed in his father's classic rock records before discovering ambient and indie artists like Bon Iver and Sigur Ros as a teenager. Despite the name, the project has no connection to Vancouver; it began as a bedroom recording endeavor, with Bettinson writing and producing songs on a keyboard and computer.
His 2013 self-released track «Vapour» spread widely online and drew attention to his atmospheric, emotionally raw sound, a blend of ambient electronic textures, falsetto vocals and slow-building dynamics. A follow-up EP, Winter, deepened that following, and by 2014 he was performing live, including an appearance at SXSW in Austin. His debut full-length album, Revival, arrived in 2016, further defining the hazy, cinematic quality of his music, heard on tracks like «Someone to Stay» and «Killing Me to Love You».
His second album, Onwards to Zion, released in 2019, expanded the palette further, weaving in psychedelic synths and samples of vintage jazz-pop into an already ethereal sonic world. Songs such as «Flaws» and «Lung» reflect his interest in intimate, introspective songwriting wrapped in richly textured production, placing Vancouver Sleep Clinic within the lineage of ambient-leaning indie pop and R&B-inflected atmospherics.
