Ungu

Ungu is an Indonesian rock band formed in Jakarta in 1996, with bassist Makki serving as the only remaining original member. The current lineup features vocalist Pasha (Sigit Purnomo Said), guitarists Enda and Onci, bassist Makki, and drummer Rowman. The band built its reputation on melodic, ballad-leaning rock with polished pop-rock production, becoming one of Indonesia’s most commercially successful acts of the 2000s.

Ungu found breakout success with singles such as «Demi Waktu», «Tercipta Untukku», «Andai Ku Tahu» and «Kekasih Gelapku», and expanded their popularity beyond Indonesia into Malaysia, particularly following the 2006 release of «Demi Waktu» and their album Melayang. Their sound combines emotionally direct, romantic lyricism with anthemic choruses, a formula that helped them dominate Indonesian charts and become a fixture on television and radio for years.

In 2016, vocalist Pasha was elected Deputy Mayor of Palu in Central Sulawesi while remaining a member of the band, with guitarists Enda and Onci sharing lead vocal duties during his time in office. Pasha returned to the microphone for the 2017 single «Setengah Gila». Ungu has also released religious singles during Ramadan, including «Hasbunallah» and «Penghuni Surga Sejatimu» in 2019, reflecting a devotional strand that runs alongside their romantic material.
