Tulus

Tulus is an Indonesian singer-songwriter, composer and producer born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, in 1987, who later settled in Bandung. Before pursuing music full time he studied architecture, and that structural sensibility carries into his songwriting, which is known for its literary, carefully crafted lyrics and warm, jazz-inflected pop arrangements built around his distinctive baritone voice.

He broke through with his self-titled debut album, whose songs «Sewindu» and «Teman Hidup» became staples of Indonesian radio and helped define a new wave of introspective, adult-contemporary pop in the country. Later albums such as «Gajah» and «Monokrom» expanded his sound with richer orchestration and brass, while songs like «Ruang Sendiri», «Pamit» and «1000 Tahun Lamanya» cemented his reputation as one of the most consistent hitmakers in modern Indonesian pop.

Tulus occupies a singular place in Indonesian music: a mainstream star whose work is also respected for its craftsmanship, often compared to singer-songwriter traditions rather than typical chart pop. His concerts and album releases are major cultural events in Indonesia, and his catalogue is frequently cited by younger Indonesian artists as a reference point for melodic, lyric-driven pop.
