Toro y Moi is the recording project of Chaz Bear, born Chazwick Bundick in 1986, an American musician, songwriter, and producer. He emerged around 2010 with hazy, synth-drenched tracks that helped define the ‘chillwave’ movement, drawing wide attention with early releases and songs like «So Many Details» and «Blessa». His project name blends Spanish and French words, roughly meaning «bull and me».

Over the following decade Bear’s sound proved restless, moving from bedroom-pop chillwave into funk, boogie, house, hip-hop-inflected production, and indie rock across albums that shifted style release to release. Songs like «Rose Quartz», «Girl Like You», and «Freelance» showcase his ability to fold groove-heavy dance sensibilities into idiosyncratic pop songwriting, often built from his own multi-instrumental production.

Beyond his own catalog, Chaz Bear has produced and collaborated widely, and is regarded as an influential figure in the shift from chillwave into broader indie and dance-pop aesthetics. His willingness to reinvent his sound album to album has made him one of the more genre-fluid artists to emerge from that early-2010s scene.
