About the artist
Tom Walker is a Scottish singer-songwriter born on December 17, 1991, who grew up in Manchester, England, after being born in Scotland. Raised on his father’s record collection of Ray Charles, the Police and Bob Marley, he taught himself drums, guitar, piano and bass before studying songwriting at London’s College of Contemporary Music. He began collaborating with housemates, including members of Whilk & Misky, and supported artists such as George Ezra, Gallant, Jake Bugg and The Script on tour.
Walker’s music blends rock and pop with soulful, emotionally direct songwriting, often built around soaring choruses and a warm, gravelly vocal tone. His breakthrough came with the single «Leave a Light On», which became his most commercially successful song, following earlier releases like «Fly Away With Me» and the Blessings EP. His debut album, What a Time to Be Alive, drew its title from the track «Blessings» and was preceded by singles including «My Way» and «Angels».
He worked closely with producer Mike Spencer in shaping his debut record, and his songs like «Just You and I» and «Better Half Of Me» showcase a knack for accessible, heartfelt pop-rock hooks. Walker established himself as one of the notable voices to emerge from the UK singer-songwriter scene in the mid-to-late 2010s.
