Tim Minchin

Tim Minchin is an Australian comedian, actor, composer, and pianist known for blending musical comedy with sharp satirical songwriting. Born in Northampton, England in 1975, he grew up in Perth, Western Australia, where he studied at the University of Western Australia and played in local bands before developing his solo piano-comedy act. His distinctive stage look — wild hair, heavy eyeliner, bare feet paired with formal tails — became inseparable from his reputation as a fearless commentator on religion, hypocrisy, and social issues.

He broke through internationally at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, winning the Best Newcomer award, and went on to build a devoted following through songs like «White Wine in the Sun», a bittersweet Christmas ballad, and pointed satirical pieces such as «Prejudice», «Pope Song», and «Come Home (Cardinal Pell)». His music sits at the intersection of pop, cabaret, and comedy, driven by virtuosic piano playing and dense, witty lyricism that often builds to theatrical, orchestral climaxes.

Beyond his solo comedy career, Minchin composed the acclaimed musical Matilda the Musical, based on Roald Dahl's novel, cementing his place as one of the most inventive musical minds to emerge from stand-up comedy. He has lived in Los Angeles and now resides in Sydney with his family.
