Thurl Ravenscroft

Thurl Ravenscroft (1914–2005) was an American singer and voice actor renowned for his deep, resonant basso profundo voice, one of the most recognizable in mid-20th-century American entertainment. As part of the vocal group The Mellomen, he provided backing vocals for stars like Dean Martin and Doris Day and lent his voice to numerous Disney classics, including Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp.

He is best remembered for two roles that entered American pop culture: the uncredited singer of «You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch» from the 1966 television special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, whose growling delivery became inseparable from the holiday classic, and the voice of Tony the Tiger, Kellogg's Frosted Flakes mascot, which he performed from 1953 until his death in 2005 — a run of over five decades.

Beyond these iconic roles, Ravenscroft made a rare on-screen appearance as Uncle Theodore, the singing bust in Disney's Haunted Mansion attraction and later film tie-ins. His work bridged commercial jingles, film soundtracks, and theme park entertainment, and his booming voice remains instantly identifiable to generations who grew up with his holiday and advertising work, even though his name was often left off the credits.
