The Weather Girls

The Weather Girls were an American vocal duo formed by Martha Wash and Izora Armstead, best remembered for their exuberant 1982 disco-pop anthem «It's Raining Men». Before adopting that name, the pair worked together in San Francisco during the late 1970s as Two Tons O' Fun, providing powerhouse backing vocals for disco icon Sylvester, whose sessions helped shape their gospel-rooted, big-voiced style.

Signing to Fantasy Records, the duo rebranded as The Weather Girls and released their self-titled debut in 1982, anchored by «It's Raining Men», which became a landmark of the dance and gay club scenes and remains a staple of pop culture decades later. Their sound blended disco energy, R&B vocal power, and early electronic production, epitomizing the maximalist, hi-NRG dance style of the early 1980s.

Despite the song's enduring popularity, the group never matched its commercial peak again, releasing several more albums through the 1980s including a final self-titled record in 1988 before disbanding. Martha Wash went on to a prolific solo and session career, lending her voice to numerous other dance hits, cementing The Weather Girls' legacy as pioneers of the disco-to-dance transition.
