The Righteous Brothers

The Righteous Brothers were an American duo formed by Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield in Orange County, California, in the early 1960s. Both had roots in the Paramours before breaking off to perform together, and their name is said to come from a fan who called their soulful sound «righteous.» They became one of the defining acts of the «blue-eyed soul» movement, bringing a Black R&B vocal sensibility to a broadly popular audience.

Their signature hit, «You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin,» produced by Phil Spector with his famed Wall of Sound, became one of the most played songs in American radio history and defined their soaring, emotionally charged vocal interplay — Medley's deep baritone against Hatfield's powerful tenor. «Unchained Melody,» originally a lesser-known track, later found a second life through film placement and remains one of their most enduring recordings.

The duo experienced breakups and a long hiatus before reuniting in 1981, continuing to perform together until Hatfield's death in 2003. Medley later carried the group's legacy forward, eventually reforming it with Bucky Heard. Their influence on pop and soul vocal harmony, and their enduring hits, secured their place as one of the most celebrated duos of the era.
