The Jacksons

The Jacksons are the continuation of The Jackson 5, adopting their new name in 1975 after leaving Motown Records for Epic Records amid disputes over creative control and royalties. The lineup centered on brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Michael, with Randy Jackson officially joining to fill the spot vacated by Jermaine, who stayed behind at Motown as he was married to Berry Gordy's daughter.

With the move to Epic, the group gained more creative freedom and began writing and producing more of their own material, moving toward a funkier, disco-influenced sound. Tracks like «Blame It on the Boogie», «Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)», and «Can You Feel It» reflected this shift, blending soulful vocal harmonies with driving, danceable grooves suited to the emerging disco era. Michael Jackson remained the group's most prominent voice during this period even as he began building his solo career alongside his work with the group.

The Jacksons continued recording and performing into the 1980s, with the group's lineup and activity fluctuating as members pursued solo projects, most notably Michael's rise to global superstardom. Despite that shift in individual careers, The Jacksons' Epic-era work remains a significant bridge between the polished Motown pop-soul of their earlier years and the funk and disco sounds that defined popular music in the late 1970s.
