About the artist
The Honeysticks were a Los Angeles-based indie-pop band led by Ricky Montgomery, who had already built a following as a solo artist known for viral songs and a background on Vine before forming the group. The band rounded out his sound with a full live-band lineup, giving his hooky, bedroom-pop songwriting a fuller, more organic instrumentation.
Their catalog blended new group originals with reworked tracks from Montgomery's solo catalog, released as an EP that mixed both. Songs like «Better», «Get to You», «Cars» and later «Out Like a Light» and «Out Like a Light 2» carried the same wistful, hook-driven pop sensibility that defined Montgomery's solo work, wrapped in warmer, band-driven production. A cover of «Don't Talk» also appeared in their small catalog, reflecting the band's roots in melodic indie-pop covers and originals alike.
The Honeysticks operated independently, without a major label, relying on direct fan support to release music. Montgomery announced his retirement from music in late 2018, effectively ending the group's active period, though «Out Like a Light 2» later surfaced as a subsequent release.
