About the artist
The Girl and the Dreamcatcher was a short-lived American pop duo formed in 2015 by Dove Cameron and Ryan McCartan, who were then engaged to be married. Both had risen to fame on Disney Channel, where they co-starred in «Liv and Maddie», and their music benefited directly from that platform, with videos airing heavily during the channel's commercial breaks. The duo's sound leaned toward glossy, radio-ready synth-pop built around close vocal harmonies between Cameron and McCartan.
Their debut single, «Written in the Stars», arrived on October 2, 2015, followed by «Glowing in the Dark» in January 2016. These songs, along with tracks like «Someone You Like» and «Make You Stay», established a template of bright, romantic pop aimed squarely at a young Disney-adjacent audience. The project reached its fullest statement with their only EP, Negatives, released July 29, 2016.
The duo's story ended almost as quickly as it began: by October 2016 Cameron and McCartan had called off their engagement, and McCartan later confirmed the band would not continue. Despite its brevity, The Girl and the Dreamcatcher remains a notable footnote in the crossover between Disney Channel stardom and pop music, and songs like «Gladiator», «Monster» and «Cry Wolf» are still remembered by fans of that era.
