The Cheetah Girls

The Cheetah Girls are an American girl group formed in 2003, created for the Disney Channel movie of the same name, itself based on a book series about four teenage girls chasing musical stardom. The lineup consisted of Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, Sabrina Bryan and Raven-Symoné, playing characters named Chanel, Aqua, Dorinda and Galleria respectively. Their sound blended bubblegum pop, R&B and light rap, tailored to a young Disney audience but catchy enough to cross over onto pop radio and into heavy rotation on the channel itself.

The group's music was released primarily through movie soundtracks: the first film introduced early hits, a holiday album followed in 2005, and the 2006 sequel brought a fuller slate of songs including a few Raven-Symoné solo cuts. In 2007, with Raven-Symoné stepping back from music, Bailon, Williams and Bryan continued as a trio, releasing a standalone album outside the film franchise plus an EP of additional tracks, before recording the soundtrack to the third and final movie, The Cheetah Girls: One World.

Beyond the music, The Cheetah Girls became a defining piece of mid-2000s Disney Channel culture, launching or boosting the individual careers of its members, who went on to solo music, television and entertainment work. Songs like «Cinderella» and «Girl Power» captured the group's empowerment-themed, friendship-driven message that anchored the franchise.
