The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers are an American electronic music duo from New York City, formed by DJ and producer Alex Pall and singer-songwriter-producer Andrew Taggart. They first drew wide attention in 2014 with the viral novelty track «#Selfie», but it was their 2016 breakthrough with «Roses» and especially «Closer», featuring vocalist Halsey, that established them as one of the defining pop-EDM acts of the decade. Unusually for an electronic duo, Taggart frequently sings lead vocals himself, blurring the line between DJ act and pop group.

Throughout the mid-to-late 2010s the duo built a run of major hits, including «Don’t Let Me Down» with Daya, «Something Just Like This» with Coldplay, «Paris» and «Sick Boy», mixing radio-friendly songwriting with festival-scale electronic production. Their sound favors big, anthemic drops, tropical-house and future-bass textures, and hook-driven, confessional lyrics that leaned into themes of youth, heartbreak and nightlife.

The Chainsmokers won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for «Don’t Let Me Down» and became one of the most commercially successful acts of the streaming era, regularly headlining major festivals worldwide. Their catalog spans EPs like Bouquet and Collage and full albums such as Memories… Do Not Open and Sick Boy, cementing their role in bringing EDM-pop crossover to mainstream radio.
