About the artist
The Brobecks were an American indie pop band from Salt Lake City, Utah, formed by Dallon Weekes, who later became widely known as the touring and studio bassist for Panic! At the Disco. Alongside a handful of high school friends, Weekes built the project around sharp, self-aware lyrics and hook-driven, keyboard-inflected pop rock, drawing comparisons to bands like XTC, Weezer, and Ben Folds Five for its blend of wit and melody.
The band's name came from an anonymous classmate of Weekes' with the surname Brobeck, whose name was repeatedly called over the school loudspeakers without anyone quite knowing who he was — a fitting emblem for a band built around outsider, wallflower charm. Across the 2000s, The Brobecks released a string of albums and EPs independently, gradually refining a sound that paired synth textures with guitar pop hooks and lyrics that were by turns sarcastic and vulnerable.
As Weekes' commitments with Panic! At the Disco grew, The Brobecks effectively became his solo outlet, with songs like «Better Than Me» and «Love at First Sight» showing the project's knack for catchy, lyrically clever pop rock. The band's cult following persisted well after activity slowed, with later fans discovering it through Weekes' higher-profile work.
