The Bird and the Bee is an American indie pop duo from Los Angeles formed by vocalist Inara George («the bird») and producer-multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin («the bee»). The two met while working on George's solo debut and decided to pursue a jazz-tinged electro-pop project together, giving Kurstin - already known for his session and production work and for his membership in Geggy Tah - a creative outlet built around George's airy, breathy vocal style.

Their self-titled debut album followed a first EP in 2006, and the duo went on to release Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future, which topped Billboard's Heatseekers chart, along with a covers record dedicated to Hall & Oates and later the album Recreational Love, led by the single «Will You Dance?». Kurstin went on to become one of pop's most sought-after producers, working with artists including Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue, Adele, and Beck, which fed a widescreen pop sensibility back into the duo's own recordings.

The Bird and the Bee's sound is defined by lush retro-futurist synths, jazzy chord voicings, and a playful, sometimes wry lyrical tone, heard on songs like «Fucking Boyfriend», «My Love», and «Again & Again». Their catalog also includes covers such as «How Deep Is Your Love» and «I'm Into Something Good», reflecting their fondness for reinterpreting pop standards through their own lounge-electronic lens.
