The Bill Gaither Trio

The Bill Gaither Trio was an American Southern gospel group led by songwriter and performer Bill Gaither, formed in Indiana in the 1960s alongside his wife Gloria Gaither and, over the years, a rotating third member, most notably his brother Danny Gaither. The trio became one of the most influential acts in modern Southern and inspirational gospel music, known for warm, accessible harmonies and songs built around themes of faith, hope and homecoming.

Bill and Gloria Gaither's songwriting partnership produced some of the most enduring standards of the genre, including «Because He Lives» and «There's Something About That Name», hymns that were widely adopted across churches and gospel repertoires far beyond the group's own recordings. Their writing combined simple, singable melodies with plainspoken, deeply personal lyrics, helping shape the sound of contemporary Southern gospel for decades.

Beyond the trio's own recording career, Bill Gaither went on to become a major organizing figure in gospel music through the long-running Gaither Vocal Band and the Gaither Homecoming video and concert series, which brought together generations of gospel artists and cemented the Gaither name as central to the genre's popular identity in the United States.
