About the artist
The Barden Bellas are a fictional all-female a cappella group at the center of the «Pitch Perfect» film franchise, based at the fictional Barden University. Rather than a real recording act, the Bellas exist as a movie ensemble whose repertoire is built entirely from mashups and covers of pop, R&B, rock and electronic hits, arranged for voices-only performance and beatboxing in place of instruments.
The films follow the group through collegiate a cappella competitions, with signature moments built around riff-offs and mashup medleys — pulling together tracks from decades of pop and R&B into single continuous arrangements. This format made the Bellas a showcase for vocal arrangement and harmony rather than original songwriting, and it turned a cappella covers into a mainstream pop phenomenon in the early-to-mid 2010s.
The most visible product of the franchise was a cover of «Cups (When I'm Gone)», performed by cast member Anna Kendrick in character, which became a real-world chart hit and cultural touchstone despite the Bellas themselves being fictional. The group's blend of genre-spanning mashups and close vocal harmony left a lasting mark on how a cappella and cover culture were perceived in mainstream entertainment.
