The Acid

The Acid is an electronic music trio formed in Los Angeles, made up of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ry X, producer and DJ Adam Freeland, and musician-technologist Steve Nalepa. The group came together around a shared interest in blending organic songwriting with dark, textured electronic production, and their sound sits at the intersection of ambient, techno, and downtempo pop, marked by Ry X's breathy, emotive vocals set against moody synthesizers and hypnotic rhythms.

Their debut album, «Liminal», released in 2014 on Infectious Music, drew attention for tracks like «Basic Instinct» and «Animal», which showcased the group's ability to fuse club-adjacent electronic textures with intimate, almost confessional songwriting. The album was praised for its atmospheric cohesion, feeling more like a continuous mood piece than a collection of singles.

Each member brought a distinct background to the project: Ry X had already built a reputation as a solo artist and collaborator in the ambient and folk-electronic space, Adam Freeland came from a well-established career in breakbeat and progressive electronic music, and Steve Nalepa contributed a technologist's approach to sound design. Together, The Acid occupies a niche within electronic music that values emotional depth and sonic texture over dancefloor immediacy, influencing a strand of introspective electronic songwriting that followed.
