Sugarfree

Sugarfree is a Filipino rock band formed around vocalist and guitarist Ebe Dancel, bassist Jal Taguibao, and drummer Mitch Singson (later replaced by Kaka Quisumbing). Emerging in the early 2000s Manila music scene, the band became one of the defining acts of the OPM (Original Pilipino Music) alternative rock revival, known for combining melodic pop sensibilities with introspective, often bittersweet songwriting delivered largely in Filipino.

Their debut album «Sa Wakas» (2003) established them as a critical and commercial force, followed by «Dramachine» (2004) and «Tala-Arawan» (2006), all released through PolyEast Records (formerly EMI Philippines). Songs like «Burnout», «Tulog Na», «Makita Kang Muli», «Hari Ng Sablay», and «Prom» became staples of Philippine radio and remain beloved touchstones of the 2000s OPM scene, praised for their emotional directness and Dancel's distinctive vocal delivery. The band also released a live orchestral album with the Manila Symphony Orchestra in 2008, before their final studio album «Mornings and Airports» (2009).

Sugarfree disbanded in 2011 but reunited in 2020 as a duo of Taguibao and Quisumbing, continuing to perform for a fanbase that has kept their catalogue alive across generations of Filipino listeners.
