Stromae

Stromae, born Paul Van Haver, is a Belgian singer, songwriter and producer of Rwandan and Belgian descent. He first gained wide attention with the 2009 single «Alors on danse», which became a massive international hit and led to a deal with a major label, alongside launching his own imprint, Mosaert.

His music blends French chanson songwriting with electronic and hip-hop production, often addressing serious social themes — family, mental health, identity, colonial history — through catchy, danceable arrangements, a contrast that became his signature. His second studio album, released in 2013, produced international hits such as «Papaoutai» and «Formidable» and became one of the best-selling French-language albums of all time.

After a lengthy hiatus, Stromae returned in 2022 with a new album exploring anxiety, loss and identity with the same blend of dark lyricism and infectious rhythm. Known for his striking visual style and elaborate music videos, he is regarded as one of the most significant French-language pop artists of his generation, with influence extending well beyond the francophone world.
