About the artist
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is an English singer and songwriter who first rose to prominence in the late 1990s as the frontwoman of the indie rock band Theaudience. After the group disbanded, she launched a solo career and quickly became one of the defining pop voices of the early 2000s, known for her cool, elegant delivery and disco-inflected sound.
Her breakthrough came with the 2001 collaboration «Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)» alongside Spiller, followed by her solo debut album Read My Lips, which spawned hits blending mainstream pop with nu-disco and 1980s electronic influences. Her signature song, «Murder on the Dancefloor», became an enduring dancefloor staple and experienced a major resurgence decades after its original release, introducing her music to new generations of listeners.
Throughout her career, Ellis-Bextor has continued to explore glamorous, disco-leaning pop across multiple albums, cultivating a devoted fanbase while maintaining a distinct, sophisticated image within British pop music.
