Sly & the Family Stone

Sly & the Family Stone was a groundbreaking American band from San Francisco, active from 1966 to 1983 and led by singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone. The group was notable for its racially and gender-integrated lineup at a time when that was rare, featuring Sly's brother Freddie Stone and sister Rose Stone alongside trumpeter Cynthia Robinson, drummer Gregg Errico, saxophonist Jerry Martini and bassist Larry Graham, whose slap-bass technique became foundational to funk.
