About the artist
Slank is one of Indonesia's most enduring rock bands, formed in Jakarta in 1983 out of a school group originally called Cikini Stone Complex, a name reflecting the founders love of The Rolling Stones. Drummer Bimbim has been the group's constant anchor through numerous lineup changes, with the current core lineup — Kaka on vocals, Bimbim on drums, Ridho and Abdee on guitars, and Ivanka on bass — solidifying in the late 1990s and remaining stable since. Their sound blends classic rock and blues-rock foundations with reggae, pop and funk textures, delivered with the loose, irreverent energy captured in the band's own name, derived from the Indonesian slang slengean.
Over four decades, Slank has released dozens of albums and become a genuine cultural institution in Indonesia, known for songs addressing social and political issues alongside romantic and youth-oriented material. Tracks like Virus and Terlalu Manis are staples of Indonesian rock radio, and the band commands one of the country's most devoted fan followings, known as Slankers. Despite lineup upheavals early in their career, including members departing to form the band BIP, Slank's persistence and adaptability have made them a benchmark act for Indonesian rock music.
