Sjava

Sjava, born Jabulani Hadebe on 2 December 1988 in Bergville, South Africa, is a singer, rapper and actor who became one of the defining voices of South African Afro-soul. Before establishing himself as a musician he worked as an actor, appearing in the SABC drama Zone 14, and first drew wide attention as a featured vocalist on Miss Pru's hit «Ameni». His sound fuses Zulu-language soul singing with hip-hop cadences and gospel-tinged emotion, a blend he has described as Afro Soul meeting Hip Hop.

His 2016 debut album, «Isina Muva», released through Ambitiouz Entertainment, turned him into a household name, driven by radio staples like «Ekuseni» and «Uthando» and eventually certified gold. Its deluxe reissue added further favourites, including «Ngempela» with DJ Maphorisa and «Impilo» with Emtee. Songs such as «Umcebo», «Dali» and «Abangani» cemented his reputation for introspective, emotionally direct songwriting delivered largely in isiZulu.

Sjava's willingness to sing almost entirely in his home language while reaching mainstream and international audiences, including a Grammy-nominated feature on Sho Madjozi's «John Cena» remix era of South African hip-hop, helped broaden the commercial ceiling for vernacular music from the region. He remains regarded as one of the leading Afro-soul artists to emerge from the Ambitiouz Entertainment stable.
