Sixpence None the Richer

Sixpence None the Richer is an American pop-rock band formed in New Braunfels, Texas, when guitarist and songwriter Matt Slocum met vocalist Leigh Nash. The band, whose name is drawn from a phrase in a C.S. Lewis essay, released its early records on Christian labels before reaching a wider mainstream audience.

Their self-titled 1997 album, released through Squint Entertainment, produced the breakout single «Kiss Me», a jangly, wistful pop song that became ubiquitous in film, television and advertising in the late 1990s and remains their signature track. The same album also featured a widely heard cover of The La's «There She Goes».

Sixpence None the Richer's sound blends chiming guitar pop with Nash's airy, distinctive vocals, drawing comparisons to jangle-pop and dream-pop influences. Though «Kiss Me» defined their commercial peak, the band built a loyal following through earlier releases like This Beautiful Mess and continued to record and perform in the following decades, with later reissues and anniversary editions of their most celebrated album keeping the songs in circulation for new listeners.
