神聖かまってちゃん (Shinsei Kamattechan)

Shinsei Kamattechan is a Japanese alternative rock and noise-pop band formed in Chiba in 2007. Led by vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter Noko, the band became known for its chaotic, emotionally raw sound and confrontational live performances, often streamed live in unfiltered, unpredictable formats that reflected the group's DIY origins on the Japanese internet and niconico platform.

Musically, the band blends distorted guitars, glitchy electronic textures, dissonant keyboards, and layered, pitch-shifted vocals with abrupt shifts between fragile melody and frantic noise. Lyrically, Noko's songwriting explores dark and personal themes including suicide, self-harm, mental illness, alienation, and disillusionment with Japan's school system and society, delivered with striking emotional honesty that has resonated deeply with a devoted fanbase.

Songs like «僕の戦争 (Boku no Sensou)» and «夕暮れの鳥» became emblematic of the band's early, more jarring and manic period, while later work moved toward a comparatively more accessible alt-pop-rock direction without losing its emotional intensity. The band's lineup has included keyboardist and programmer Mono and drummer Misako, with bassist Chibagin an early member who departed in 2020. Shinsei Kamattechan remains a distinctive and influential presence within Japan's alternative and underground rock scenes.
