Shankar Mahadevan

Shankar Mahadevan is an Indian playback singer and composer, best known for his soaring, virtuosic vocal style and his role as a member of the composing trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, which has scored music for numerous Hindi-language films. His breakout came with the 1998 album Breathless, whose title track became famous for its continuous, unbroken vocal line, showcasing his exceptional breath control and technical range.

As part of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy alongside Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, he has contributed music to major Bollywood soundtracks, blending Indian classical vocal training with contemporary pop, rock, and orchestral arrangements. Songs such as «Desi Girl» and «Taare Zameen Par» reflect the trio's range across upbeat dance numbers and reflective, emotionally resonant compositions.

Mahadevan's singing draws on a strong grounding in Indian classical music, which he brings to both playback singing and his solo and fusion projects, making him one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary Indian film music.
