Shaggy

Shaggy, born Orville Richard Burrell on October 22, 1968, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican-American reggae fusion singer and deejay whose deep, gravelly voice and playful charisma made him one of dancehall's most successful global crossover artists. His family moved to Brooklyn, New York, when he was young, and he later served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Gulf War before returning to music full-time.

He broke through in 1993 with «Oh Carolina», a dancehall reworking of the Folkes Brothers' ska classic, and cemented his reggae-pop sound throughout the 1990s. His biggest commercial peak came with the 2000 album Hot Shot, powered by the multi-platinum singles «It Wasn't Me» and «Angel», which brought his blend of playful storytelling and infectious hooks to mainstream pop radio worldwide.

Over a long career Shaggy has scored hits like «Boombastic», «Hey Sexy Lady» and «Strength of a Woman», and continued collaborating widely, including work with Sting on the album 44/876. His sound consistently fuses reggae and dancehall rhythms with pop and R&B accessibility, making him one of the genre's most recognizable ambassadors to international audiences.
