Severina

Severina Vučković, known simply as Severina, is a Croatian pop singer born in 1972 in Split who has been one of the most prominent and enduring stars of the former Yugoslav pop scene since the early 1990s. She first performed on stage as a child and later studied music before rising through Croatian and regional festivals, eventually becoming a defining figure of Balkan turbofolk-adjacent pop with its blend of mainstream pop hooks, Dalmatian and folk influences, and, later, rap and R&B elements.

Over more than a dozen studio albums she has built a catalogue of enormous regional hits, moving between glossy dance-pop, sentimental ballads and folk-tinged party anthems; songs such as «Tarapana», «Uno momento» and «Brad Pitt» reflect her knack for combining sharp pop production with playful, provocative personas. She represented Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest on several occasions and won the national selection Dora in 2006 with «Moja štikla».

Beyond music, Severina has remained a constant presence in regional tabloid culture, with her personal life and public image frequently as talked-about as her records. She has recorded collaborations with major names across the former Yugoslav space, including Gibonni, Jala Brat and others, and her decades-long career has made her a genuine institution of Croatian and wider Balkan pop music.
