Sertab Erener

Sertab Erener is a Turkish singer and songwriter, one of the most prominent figures in Turkish pop music since the 1990s. Trained as an opera singer before moving into pop, she built a career defined by a powerful, technically accomplished voice combined with sophisticated, often jazz- and R&B-inflected arrangements that set her apart from much of the Turkish pop scene.

She is best known internationally for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 with the song «Everyway That I Can», the first Eurovision victory for Turkey, which brought her global recognition and led to English-language releases aimed at wider European and American audiences. Domestically she had already established herself over the previous decade with a string of hit albums blending Turkish lyrics with Western pop and soul influences.

Throughout her career Erener has collaborated with prominent Turkish composers and producers, and her catalog includes songs like «Aldırma Deli Gönlüm» and «Rüya» that remain staples of Turkish pop radio. She is regarded as a pioneering crossover artist who helped modernize Turkish pop's sound and bring it to international attention.
